"Trapped in an Hourglass" is taken from the third MyGRAIN album titled "MyGRAIN" (2011).

Symphony X adalah band beraliran Progressive metal yang berasal dari Amerika Serikat, Middletown, New Jersey. Di dirikan pada tahun 1994 oleh gitaris Michael Romeo, album-album mereka seperti The Divine Wings Of Tragedy dan V: The New Mythology Suite telah menyumbangkan perhatian yang pantas untuk di pertimbangkan bagi band ini dari komunitas Progressive Metal. Mereka juga mencapai sukses komersial yang berlebih dari album 2007 Paradise Lost, kemudian album yang rilis pada tahun ini (2011) Iconoclast juga mendapat posisi yang bagus di tangga lagu dunia.

The Dark Chapter, Symphony X dan The Damnation Game (1994-1995)

Pada awal tahun 1994, Michael Romeo (mantan Phantom’s Opera, mantan Gemini) Merekam album studio yang di beri judul The Dark Chapter, di album ini ada dia dan pemain keyboard Michael Pinnella. Rekaman ini menarik perhatian banyak orang, terutama di Jepang. Michael Romeo kemudian merekrut pemain bass Thomas Miller, pemain drum Jason Rullo, dan Vokalis Rod Tyler. Kemudian album berjudul sama dengan nama band Symphony X di rekam pada tahun yang sama dan di rilis atas penerimaan positif di jepang oleh perusahaan rekaman yang sekarang sudah tidak ada Zero Corporation. Album studio kedua mereka, The Damnation Game, juga mengikuti langkah album pertama enam bulan kemudian. Vokalis Rod Tyler meninggalkan band pada waktu itu dan di gantikan oleh vokalis yang sekarang yaitu Russel Allen.

The Divine Wings Of Tragedy dan Twilight In Olympus (1996-1998)

The Divine Wings Of Tragedy adalah album pertama mereka yang memberikan eksposur lebih untuk Symphony X dalam dunia Metal. Membutuhkan pertimbangan waktu yang cukup untuk merekam album ini, dengan sesi perekaman yang di muali pada tahun 1996 dan rampung pada tahun 1997. Respon yang baik dari media membuat Symphony X tetap stabil di Eropa, sementara kesuksesan yang mereka raih di Jepang terus bertambah besar.

Pada akhir tahun 1997 dan pertengahan tahun berikutnya, Jason Rullo, drummer mereka harus menjauh dari band untuk menyelesaikan urusan pribadinya. Untuk sementara dia di gantikan oleh Thomas Walling. Walau hanya dengan drummer sementara, mereka tetap merekam album Twilight In Olympus, yang di rilis pada awal tahun 1998. Tahun itu juga menjadi tahun pertama bagi band ini muncul dan melakukan show di depan publik, yang membuat berkumpulnya para fans dari seluruh dunia. Show resmi mereka terjadi pada tahun 1998 di Jepang. Kemudian di ikuti oleh tur keliling dunia. Pada tahun ini juga pemain bass Thomas Miller cabut dari band dan di gantikan oleh Michael Lepond. Album kompilasi Prelude To The Millenium di rilis pada akhir tahun 1998. Sebagai ekstra, di isikan versi kedua dari lagu “Masquerade” dari album pertama, dengan Russel Allen pada vokal.

V: The New Mythology Suite dan The Odyssey (1999-2002)

Jason Rullo kembali mengisi posisi drumer pada album kelima mereka, V: The New Mythology Suite yang di rilis pada tahun 2000. Album ini menjadi rilis pertama mereka untuk major progressive label Insideout Music. Album ini juga merupakan album pertama mereka yang di konsep terlebih dahulu, yang membahas tentang mitologi dari Atlantis. Album ini berisi materi klasik seperti “Communio And The Oracle,” Egypt”, dan suite mini “Rediscovery” dan terdapat juga beberapa bagian dari musik klasik.

Mereka segera melakukan tur ke Eropa setelah di rilisnya album ini dan merekam rekaman live pertama mereka, Live On The Edge Of Forever Disc 1 dan Live On The Edge Of Forever Disc 2.

Pada tahun 2002, mereka merilis album The Odyssey, sebuah album yang secara menonjol menampilkan interpretasi musik 24 menit yang panjang dari epik homer, odyssey.

Album-album Solo (2003-2006)

Pemain keyboard Michael Pinnella merilis solo album yang di beri judul Enter By The Twelfth Gate pada tanggal 12 Oktober 2004. Debut solo dari vokalis Russel Allen di beri judul Atomic Soul di rilis pada musim panas tahun 2005. Dengan album ini Allen mengambil jalan yang berbeda dengan apa yang di kerjakannya dengan Symphony X. Banyak orang bilang, termasuk Allen sendiri kalau album ini arahnya ke Hard Rock. Dan pada tahun 2005 juga dia merekam album berjudul The Battle dengan mantan vokalis Masterplan Jørn Lande di bawah nama Allen/Lande. Mereka berdua kemudian merekam album dengan judul The Revenge, yang di rilis pada bulan Mei 2007. Pada tahun 2005, Symphony X mengisi acara di Gigantour, sebuah festival musim panas yang di headline oleh Megadeth, Dream Theater dan Anthrax. Dua lagu Symphony X dari tur ini, “Inferno” dan “Of Sins And Shadows“, mengisi DVD dan set CD dari Gigantour, yan di rilis pada bulan September 2006.

Paradise Lost (2007-2010)

Album ini terinspirasi dari puisi kepahlawan John Milton dengan nama yang sama, di rekam di studio Romeo dan di rilis pada tanggal 26 Juni 2007. Mereka meng-klaim kalau album ini memiliki tema musik yang lebih gelap. Rilis album ini bertepatan dengan tur dunia mereka, termasuk tur ke eropa bareng Dream Theater pada musim gugur 2007. Mereka juga merencanakan akan tampil di Jepang dan beberapa negara di Asia lainnya, sebagai mana mereka telah tampil untuk pertama kali di Rusia, India dan Timur Tengah.

Paradise Lost debut pada nomor 123 di Billboard chart 200 di Amerika Serikat, terjual 6300 keping pada minggu pertama. Rekaman ini juga mencapai posisi 1 di Top Heatseeker chart.

Symphony X merilis musik video pertama mereka untuk lagu “Serpent’s Kiss” pada tanggal 28 Juli 2007. Di ikuti dengan video untuk lagu “Set The World On Fire“, yang di rilis pada tanggal 11 Januari 2008. Band ini melakukan tur untuk Amerika Selatan dan Utara dari bulan Oktober sampai November 2008, dan mengadakan tur ke Asia pada bulan Februari 2009.

Iconoclast (2011-sekarang)

Sound

Symphony X sering di banding-banding kan dengan band progressive Metal lainnya seperti Dream Theater, Fates Warning, dan Shadow Gallery. Musik mereka mengandung timing yang kompleks, meter-meter yang aneh sementara di gabungkan dengan elemen Symphonic Metal dan Heavy Metal Tradisional. Musik mereka juga mengandung elemen neo-klasikal yang mengingatkan kita akan Yngwie Malmsteen, Cacophony, Randy Rhoads dan artis neo-klasikal metal yang lain.

Studio Rekaman : The Dungeon

The Dungeon adalah studio rekaman yang berlokasi di rumah gitaris dan komposer Symphony X, Michael Romeo. Album The Devine Wings Of Tragedy dan V: The New Mythology Suite di rekam separo di The Dungeon sementara album The Odyssey, Paradise Lost dan Iconoclast sepenuhnya di rekam di sana dan di produseri oleh Michael Romeo sendiri. Symphony X telah mengeluarkan banyak biaya untuk meng-upgrade studio ini dan membeli peralatan Symphony untuk memperkaya khasanah musik mereka.
